Security & Privacy
At About Time, your privacy is important to us and we store your data securely. Do you have questions about the security of your data? Take a look below.
An account for About Time is personal and intended for personal use only. If you want to give your partner, or someone else, access to your data, you can invite him or her as a trustee.
More about trustees: What is a trustee allowed to do?
When you purchase a pre-paid bundle for About Time in the app, payment is made directly via the Google and Apple App Stores.
What About Time stores is the date the transaction took place, along with the product and amount. You can also view this data yourself via the app. To do this, go to "Settings" and then to "My Credit".
If you have purchased a product via the Webshop, we will store the information you have left there for correct delivery and a payment ID (this is a code that can look like: c43247466842536.1, for example). We store whether your payment was successful or was canceled prematurely.
If you experience any problems during the payment process, please contact us via this form.
Via the menu, go to 'Settings'.
One of the options you see here is 'Change password'. Enter your current password and then the new password you want to use twice.
Choose a secure password, which must consist of at least 14 characters, of which at least one is a number and at least one is a letter.
In About Time you store a lot of important and personal information. Safety therefore has the highest priority.
To prevent others from easily guessing your password, a password must comply with at least the following rules:
- At least 14 characters long
- At least one digit
- At least one letter
Tip: Choose a few words that you put together, so that the password is easy for you to remember.
In About Time you store a lot of important and personal information. Safety is therefore our top priority.
You are the only one who has access to your own data, unless you set this differently.
It is important that you choose a strong password that is not easy to guess. This prevents someone from guessing your password and thus gaining access to your account.
You can read more about password here.
If you invite a confidant to the app - which we advise you to do - you decide who will have access to your account at which stage of your life, or only after your death. You can only give your confidant(s) reading rights, but also the right to edit your profile.
You can read more about Trustees here.

Security and Privacy are of paramount importance to us. We are committed to protecting the personal data of our users. We have taken appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect the security of your data.
We have taken various precautions to prevent unauthorized access and unnecessary storage of personal data in our systems. These include pseudonymization, encryption, access and storage policies. We take numerous measures to keep your data safe.
For example, we work with a secure internet environment. This way, others don't get the chance to secretly watch. Your transaction data is sent encrypted via an SSL connection. You can recognize a secure SSL connection by the green lock in your browser.
We store your (login) details securely and will never share them with others. But otherwise you are responsible for keeping your login details confidential. You are also liable for the use of your About Time account. This means that we are not liable for damage you incur due to unauthorized use of your About Time account, unless that damage was caused by circumstances attributable to us.
The password you enter must meet certain requirements, it is secret and only for you. Make sure you don't share this password with other people.
In addition, About Time is tested on a periodic basis by a specialized company.
The answer to this question falls into a few parts:
- If you use About Time and close your account yourself, your data will be deleted as soon as you have definitively confirmed this;
- If you have a (trial) account and you let your credit expire, your account and all your data will be deleted after one month;
- If one of your trustees has registered in About Time that you have died, your data will still be available to your trustee(s) for 9 months;
- If you have registered for the newsletter, your name and email address will be retained until you indicate that you no longer wish to receive the newsletter;
- If you have registered in the Online Condolence Register (for example to open a register), your data will be stored there until you delete your account;
- About Time webshop: Did you buy something via the webshop? We must then keep the invoicing data for 7 years for a possible audit by the tax authorities.
Have you forgotten your password? No problem! It happens more often than you think.
Click on 'forgotten password' at the login screen and enter your email address. You will then receive a code sent to your email address with which you can create a new password in the app.
Your username is the email address you provided. Have you already tried your email address(es) and are unable to find it? Please contact us via this form and we can go through the recovery procedure together.
After your trustee(s) have registered in About Time that you have died, they can access your data for another 9 months.
One of the wishes on our roadmap is the possibility for surviving relatives to keep the user's account (yours) alive after those 9 months. This is not yet possible, but if there is (a lot of) demand for it, we will certainly make it possible.
It is of course important that there is at least one person who has access to your data if you are no longer competent or deceased. At About Time we call such a person 'a trustee'.
Via the menu in the app you indicate who you want to give access to as your trustee(s) and from what time. Perhaps during your life, when you are no longer mentally competent or from the moment you die.
You can also indicate what your trustee is allowed to do. Only view or perhaps also adjust data on your behalf.
You also indicate which trustee is allowed to register in About Time that you are no longer competent or have passed away.
Via the same 'Trustees' button, the trustee can see that he/she is your trustee and it can be registered that you have died. The trustee will then see separate screens with the steps and information (largely filled in by you) that will be needed from that moment on.
Access to your information remains for the trustee(s) for 9 months after your death.
About Time's mission is to help prepare for an impending loss sooner or later and with the hope of inspiring, promoting openness and starting a conversation.
Je profiteert het meest door Over Tijd als instrument te gebruiken om je naasten de tijd en rust te geven op het moment dat jij er niet meer bent.
The About Time conversation starters will give you a helping hand. These are questions that you might not have made up yourself, that you find difficult to ask or that may seem less relevant to you.
Through the About Time app you have access to a wealth of information, inspiration, possibilities and much more to make your life memorable. You decide which loved ones have access to this data as a trustee.
In our About Time condolence register , you can create a memorial page as a next of kin, entirely dedicated to the deceased loved one. Easily share a page with photos, character traits, stories, anecdotes, and a birth and death date.

The GDPR gives you, as a user and visitor of About Time (app, website, webshop), a large number of rights with regard to your personal data.
For example, you have the right to inspect your data and to have it corrected or deleted. In certain cases, you have the right to have the processing of your data temporarily frozen ('restricted') and the right to object to the processing.
Yes, About Time can currently only be used if you are 16 years or older. This has to do with the Privacy Act (GDPR). If you are under the age of 16, your parents or guardian must consciously and separately consent to the storage of your data.
It is not yet possible to register this separately, but it will become possible in the future.
