The Netherlands loses during the World Cup

After the evaluation, I walk to Mr. W's room. The door is wide open and he looks ahead in a rowdy manner. Can I come in? Sure, you always. To get straight to the point, you don't look happy today. His strong Rotterdam accent betrays his disappointment. Do you think it's crazy. Well, they've earned it too. What a bad game. Maybe that's for the best, I probably wouldn't have made it to that final in a month's time. That orange junk can go, he says with a cautious smile. Before I know it, the sentence shoots out of my mouth. Shall I cremate that mess then?! He bursts out laughing and shakes back and forth. Go ahead, he says. I say sorry, that popped out. Doesn't matter, he says, I like that gallows humor.

Pfff...

He evaluates the match one more time with the necessary expletives and then says; So, I'm hungry! Shall I prepare a sandwich? Go ahead, just do about 4 and a Rivella. Are probably still in the fridge. Oh, and maybe a glass of orange juice. So then, anything else? They're going to be poor if you lie here any longer. Again he starts laughing and so loudly that the fellow volunteers come to watch. Nothing to worry about, I'm still alive is his answer.

When I come back for lunch, some football stories from the distant past follow. Feyenoord has been my passion and life for 70 years. I went there with my father and then with my son and in recent years with my grandson. Always season tickets. The football of the past few years has been... Let's say... Not so good, or rather not so good. And you can fill in the rest, right?
