PostNL surviving relatives service

PostNL has a next of kin service that allows you to easily have mail forwarded to an address that you specify. You can arrange it online. You will need a death certificate. You can choose to have the mail forwarded for 1, 3 or 6 months.

There is a charge for this service.

In addition, PostNL registers the name and address of the deceased free of charge in the National Register of Deaths. Advertising mail from companies will be automatically stopped.

How does the survivor service work?

  1. You fill in your details and those of the deceased and you mention your relationship to the deceased. You can only apply for the next of kin service if no one with the same surname as the deceased lives at the address.
  2. PostNL is required by law to check death certificates. Therefore, keep a digital copy or photo of the deed at hand. You have probably already requested the death certificate from the municipality where the person died.
  3. First fill in the address of the deceased, and then the address to which PostNL can forward the mail.
  4. Upon receipt, you will receive a confirmation email. The forwarding of the mail starts 4 days after PostNL has checked the death certificate. You will also receive an email about this.
